Long xuyen Sights


Long Xuyen Catholic Church
This is the largest Catholic church in the Mekong Delta region and can seat 1000 worhippers. This church was constructed between 1966 and 1973.
 
An Giang Museum
The An Giang Museum is situated on Thoai Ngoc Hau Street, My Long Ward, Long Xuyen City, An Giang Province.
In the large courtyard, various ornamental plants and particularly red jasmine trees in full bloom welcome visitors with mildly refreshing fragrances.
Upon coming to the museum, visitors will be told about the biography and revolutionary career of President Ton Duc Thang. He is looked up to as a strong hearted fighter for the revolutionary cause of national and class liberation. Nearly 200 photos and exhibits related to his life are impressively displayed in the grand hall.
Visitors are then led to Room 2 to admire relics and archaeological evidence such as old tombs, statues, labour tools, etc. that belong to the Oc Eo culture between 2nd and 7th centuries and were excavated at the Ba The-Oc Eo archaeology site. A well-arranged display of about 300 photos, exhibits, and related documentation enables visitors to imagine the great cultural centre of a lost monumental ancient city.
In Room 3, visitors will be given a review of glorious milestones in the heroic struggle of the An Giang people.
Finally, Room 4 is reserved for the so-called “Achievements in the Construction and Defense of Fatherland and Socialism of the An Giang People” display.
 
 
Cam (Forbidden) Mountain
Cam Mountain is located in An Hao Commune, Tinh Bien District, An Giang Province.

Mountains (That Son) in An Giang.
The majestic mountain places itself imposingly in the Cuu Long (Mekong) Delta on the altitude of 710m. The panoramic view of Great Buddha Pagoda (in An Binh, An Hao Commune) from Vo Bo Hong Peak presents a great valley surrounded by rolling mountains in the Thien Cam Son chain such as Vo Dau, Vo Bo Hong, Vo Thien Tue, etc. Endowed with such spectacular mountainous terrain, Cam Mountain is considered as a Dalat (a famous highland resort) in the Mekong Delta. The mountain has a year-round cool climate, original natural spots associated with interesting, heart-warming legends and myths that lure increasing numbers of tourists and vacationers.

Tra Su Forest
Tra Su Forest is located in Vinh Trung Commune, Tinh Bien District, An Giang Province.
Coming to Tra Su Forest, people will have a chance to enjoy precious moments living in harmony with nature as well as the wholesome atmosphere.

The forest has been restored since 1983 with a current extension area of 700 hectares. This ecological spot is the habitat of many genera of water birds (mostly storks), colonies of bats and various rare animal and bird species. Especially tourists will be flabbergasted by small houses on stilts with rudimentary bamboo ceilings that are firmly tightened to cajuput trees, making an unusual existence in the quiet ambience of the forest. They are actually restoration work of a provincial-level revolutionary base of the An Giang people and soldiers in the glorious struggle against the US imperialists.

Standing on a 10m high watch tower in the midst of the forest, tourists can enjoy a panorama of the vast greenery spotted with the white of storks below. Turtles, snakes, as well as other reptiles and freshwater fishes are also abundant in the canals.
Endowed with peace and tranquility, Tra Su Forest will certainly become a unique and attractive destination for tourists who love the beauty of nature.
 
 
Ba Chua Xu Temple
At the foot of Sam Mountain, Vinh Te Commune, Chau Doc Town, An Giang Province.
Ba Chua Xu Temple is constructed according to the Chinese character "quoc", has 4 square roofs, roofed with blue pile-shaped tiles.

Ba Chua Xu Temple was built in 1820 on Sam Mountain. According to a legend, in the early 1800s villagers found a statue of a lady dating to the 6th century in the forest. They built a temple in her honour, hoping that she would bring them better crops and better lives. This is why the marble statue of Ba Chua Xu, meaning "country lady," is worshipped.

Ba Chua Xu Festival is organized annually at the end of the 4th lunar month; worshippers touch her statue and ask for her protection and benediction.
 
Oc-Eo Remains Site
 Oc-Eo Remains Site is located in the mountainous region of Sap - Ba The in Thoai Son District, An Giang Province; 30km from Long Xuyen.
It is a vast ancient vestige of the Phu Nam Kingdom, a powerful nation in the Southeast Asia about two thousand years ago. In the Middle Ages, the ancient citadel of Oc-Eo used to be a commercial center.
Oc-Eo Remains Site was rediscovered when the soil was dug out to build the Ba The Channel. The site has an area of 4,500ha still hold many mysteries to researchers and archaeologists.
Nowadays, the Oc Eo Remains Site not only receives many researchers and archeologists who come to study and investigate but also attracts many local and foreign tourists who come to visit and study about a booming era of the former An Giang.
 
Ong Ho (Tiger) Island
Tiger Island is located in My Hoa Hung Commune, Long Xuyen City, An Giang Province.
The island had been raised by the silt of Hau River. There is the wooden house where preserves artifacts of President Ton Duc Thang on the island.
The inhabitants of this island explain that in the past this was a region of rushes and reeds that was the dens of tigers and panthers. After many years of accumulation of the silt of Hau River this fertile island was formed and then men began to establish communities, but they still call this island by the name of Tiger.
On the island there is a wooden house in the middle of the garden abundant in fruit trees. This house is the place where the artifacts of President Ton Duc Thang are preserved. President Ton Duc Thang’s father, Mr. Ton Van De built the wooden house in 1887.
Coming to Ong Ho Island, visitors will have a chance to enjoy the taste of various fruits, specialty meals and listen to artists’ songs, and music, get acquainted with the life of the Southern people, see the fish rafts on the edge of the islet all along the Hau River.
 
Sam Mountain
Vinh Te Commune, 6km west of Chau Doc Town, An Giang Province.
The 230m high mountain with beautiful landscapes and many historic remains.
From Long Xuyen, one has to travel almost 60km to get to Sam Mountain which lies west of Chau Doc Town, at approximately 2km from the frontier between Vietnam and Cambodia.

The 230m high mountain does not only offer beautiful landscapes, but it is also where many historic remains deeply loved by the inhabitants of Nam Bo plain are located. Ba Chua Xu Temple, Tay An Pagoda, Thoai Ngoc Hau Tomb, Tao Ngo Garden, and Bach Van Hill are among the famous sites to visit near Sam Mountain.

Getting there
By land:
Bus from Ho Chi Minh ( Mien Tay bus station) to Long xuyen bus station ( add: 96/3B Tran Hung Dao str., )
There’re many daily buses from Long Xuey to Camau, Can Tho, Chau Doc, Ha Tien , Ho Chi Minh and Reach Gia also.
 
By boat:
There’s a ferry doc near Pham Hong Thai str.,. and from this ferry, passengers can leave to Cho Vam, Dong Tien, HOng Ngu, Kien Luong, Lai Vung, Rach GIa, Sa Dec and Phu Chau .
